Pete Klimek, tied bundle of joy to the apron strings of his parents, was wheeled across Europe, labelled “refugee” in 1969 in Vienna where he was dragged away from the communist-occupied and bullet-riddled streets of Kafka’s Prague to settle like dust in South Africa… a far cry indeed from the bohemian-style cafes where poetry readings were as common as sipping Turkish coffee in smoky coffee houses.
Pete picked up his guitar before his first audience in 1977 to perform his own compositions and never quite put it down since… making his vocation that of an eternal series of auditions as singer/songwriter. He attained the “Sons Of England” literary award, a book by William Blake and vinyl record by Bob Dylan – the highest recognition of literary achievement at his senior school. Klimek was also ranked among the top 10 tennis players in SA and was offered a tennis scholarship to Tennessee, USA.
Pete chose poetry, lights and music to show him the world. Along with Paul Q, the duo was called “The Flood”.
Creativity brought him back to settle in the wonder of Europe in the 1990’s and the city of Rotterdam.
Pete’s creative photography has been shamelessly featured in various Dutch publications. His music still echoes in the hallways and alleys of Holland, Germany, the UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Belgium and various radio stations between the continents.
Klimek appeared, together with fellow artist and collaborator Paul Q on RTL’s Soundmix Show as the Everly Brothers. A series of documentaries were made and aired on “Good Morning South Africa.”
“Angels Dressed In Rainbows” is a luxurious anthology and collection of Pete Klimek’s life-in-pages – words & images. This ‘musography’ was printed and launched in San Francisco by Andre Furlan (2009) in time for the successful St. Mary’s Art Gallery exhibition and International “Festival Of Flowers”.
